Major General Hassan Ahmed Killed in Abuja Attack, Wife Abducted

  • A senior Nigerian Army officer, Major General Hassan Ahmed, was reportedly killed during an attack by gunmen along the Abuja-Lokoja highway.
  • The attackers were also said to have abducted his wife after intercepting their vehicle near the Abaji area of the Federal Capital Territory.

According to reports, the incident happened while the senior military officer and his wife were travelling back from Okene in Kogi State. Armed men allegedly opened fire on their vehicle, killing the officer during the attack.

Sources familiar with the incident claimed that the driver survived after pretending to be lifeless while the attackers operated. The gunmen reportedly took the officer’s wife away before fleeing the scene.

Before the incident, Major General Hassan Ahmed had served in key positions within the Nigerian Army, including as Provost Marshal. He also held a director-level position at Army Headquarters following his appointment under former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya.

The incident has once again drawn attention to growing security concerns along major highways and parts of the Federal Capital Territory, where cases of kidnappings and armed attacks have continued to raise public concern.

At the time of filing this report, there had been no official statement from military authorities regarding the attack or the whereabouts of the officer’s wife.
