Nigerian Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has stirred political reactions in Osun State after declaring on social media that Senator Francis Fadahunsi and House of Representatives member Oluwole Oke would not return to the National Assembly.
Davido, who is a nephew of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, reportedly made the comment while reacting to a post on X suggesting that the two politicians, popularly referred to as “Fada” and “Wole Oke,” had demonstrated sufficient political capacity to retain their seats in the National Assembly. In his reported response, Davido wrote: “Not with me alive.”
The comment has generated attention because of the growing political rivalry in Osun State ahead of the 2026 governorship election and the changing political alignments involving the two lawmakers.
Fadahunsi, Oke and the APC realignment
Both Fadahunsi and Oke were previously members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the platform on which Governor Ademola Adeleke came to power.
However, the two lawmakers subsequently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Fadahunsi formally joined the APC in 2025, alongside other Osun federal lawmakers. Oke also defected from the PDP and has since become a prominent figure in the APC’s campaign structure in the state.
The political realignment has intensified competition in the state, particularly as several former PDP figures have crossed over to the APC.
Political rivalry behind Davido’s reaction
Davido’s intervention is notable because of his close relationship with Governor Adeleke and his previous public involvement in Osun politics. The singer has repeatedly expressed support for his uncle and has also spoken out on political developments in the state.
The reported statement concerning Fadahunsi and Oke perhaps comes against the backdrop of an increasingly competitive political environment in Osun.
However, the statement should be understood as a political expression by Davido and not a literal determination of the lawmakers’ electoral fate.
Whether Fadahunsi or Oke returns to the National Assembly will ultimately be determined by their parties, their constituencies and the outcome of the relevant elections.
