The Federal Government has officially announced that Tuesday, August 25, 2026, will be a public holiday in honor of this year’s Eid ul Mawlid celebration, which commemorates the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
This announcement came from the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, representing the Federal Government.
In his message, the minister extended warm wishes to Muslims in Nigeria and around the world, encouraging everyone to reflect on the values of compassion, humility, and service to humanity—principles he highlighted as key lessons from the life of the Prophet Muhammad.
“Every Eid ul Mawlid gives us a moment to pause and learn from a life characterized by compassion, humility, and a commitment to serving others,” Tunji-Ojo remarked.
He urged Nigerians, no matter their religious beliefs, to adopt these values, emphasizing their significance for national growth and peaceful coexistence.
The minister also encouraged citizens to take this celebration as a chance to pray for peace, unity, and stability throughout the nation, reminding everyone that fostering national unity is a shared responsibility.
Tunji-Ojo called on the Muslim community to celebrate in a spirit of respect and responsibility, while reassuring Nigerians of the government’s ongoing dedication to safeguarding lives and property.
