Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has announced the arrival of Gateway Air at the Gateway International Airport (GIA), describing it as another major step in the state’s aviation drive. In a post on his official Facebook page, the governor presented the development as a significant milestone for Ogun’s transport and economic expansion plans. (Facebook)
The update comes as the state intensifies preparations for the airport’s first international operation, which is expected to airlift more than 690 Ogun pilgrims to Saudi Arabia for the 2026 Hajj. The planned service is being projected as the airport’s maiden international flight and a major test of its readiness for broader cross-border operations.
The latest development builds on the airport’s recent progress. Gateway International Airport had already entered Nigeria’s domestic aviation network after commercial passenger operations began in October 2025, and the new push toward international service signals Ogun State’s ambition to turn the facility into a stronger regional aviation hub.
With Gateway Air now on ground and Hajj flight preparations underway, the state government appears to be positioning the airport for a wider role in passenger movement, logistics and regional connectivity in the South-West.
