President Tinubu Relieves Wale Edun of Finance Minister Role, Appoints Taiwo Oyedele

President Bola Tinubu has relieved Wale Edun of his duties as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, making a significant change in his cabinet.

In a statement issued on Tuesday from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, President Tinubu confirmed the reshuffle, naming Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy.

The memo, signed by Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government, stated that Wale Edun and Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa are to exit the cabinet, with their replacements already named. Edun has been instructed to hand over responsibilities to Oyedele by the close of business on Thursday, 23rd April, 2026.

Furthermore, Mr Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been appointed as the Ministerial nominee and Minister Designate for the Housing and Urban Development Ministry.

Dangiwa, who served as Minister of Housing and Urban Development, will also hand over to the Minister of State in the same ministry.

Reasons Behind the Reshuffle

According to Senator George Akume, the reshuffle is aimed at strengthening cohesion and synergy in governance. The goal is to enhance economic delivery through the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Akume added that the President, in exercising his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution, thanked the outgoing ministers for their contributions to national development and wished them success in future endeavors.

The Road Ahead

The reshuffle comes at a time when President Tinubu seeks to bolster his administration’s focus on impactful economic reforms. With Oyedele stepping into his new role, all eyes will be on his approach to revitalizing Nigeria’s economy. The President’s decision reflects his ongoing commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s governance and implementing more effective economic strategies.
