In a significant political move, four members of the House of Representatives from Kano State have announced their resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). They made the announcement on the floor of the House of Representatives during plenary on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. In their formal letter addressed to the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, the lawmakers declared their defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). They expressed dissatisfaction with the ongoing leadership issues within NNPP, prompting their decision to join the ADC, which they see as a more stable platform for achieving their political goals.
In a related development, two lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also announced their resignation. Chinedu Martins, who represents Ahiazu Mbaise/Ezinihitte Federal Constituency of Imo State, and Kabiru Amadu (Mai Palace) of Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency in Zamfara State, both defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Martins and Amadu cited the persistent crises within the PDP as the key factor behind their decision. While expressing gratitude to the PDP for the political opportunities it provided, they stated that the APC would be in a better position to serve their constituencies moving forward.
