President Bola Tinubu has reassured Nigerians that his administration will overcome the country’s security challenges, declaring that terrorism and banditry will not be allowed to define the nation’s future. He gave the assurance on February 9 while opening the Second National Economic Council Conference at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
The President said insecurity remains one of the issues keeping government officials awake at night, but insisted that the country would prevail through determination and stronger support for the security forces. In his words, “We will overcome this unacceptable terrorism and banditry. It’s not part of our culture. It’s foreign to us.”
Tinubu also linked insecurity to Nigeria’s economic difficulties, saying peace is essential for growth, investment and development across affected communities. He said his government is looking for more ways to reinforce the country’s security architecture while pushing ahead with broader development plans.
As part of that commitment, the President told participants at the conference that his administration would continue efforts to strengthen the nation’s security institutions. He said, “I’ll play my part,” while reaffirming his resolve to back measures aimed at defeating terrorism and banditry.
Tinubu also commended governors in frontline states, including Borno, Katsina and Kaduna, for what he described as their efforts in defending lives, freedom and public assets in the face of persistent threats.
His remarks come amid continued concern over attacks in parts of the country, with the administration presenting security restoration as a key condition for inclusive growth and national stability. (State House Abuja)
