The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially announced that Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has won the 2026 Osun State governorship election, earning himself a second term in office.
This declaration came in the early hours of Sunday, August 16, 2026, at the INEC collation center in Osogbo, right after the results from all 30 local government areas of the state were tallied.
According to the final results shared by the Returning Officer, Joshua Ogunwole, Adeleke garnered 511,067 votes, triumphing over his nearest rival, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who received 444,815 votes.
This means Adeleke won by a margin of 66,252 votes over the APC candidate.
Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came in a distant third with 17,180 votes.
Adeleke showcased a strong geographical advantage in this election, winning in 19 out of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji claimed victory in the remaining 11 LGAs.
As the Returning Officer announced the final results, he confirmed that Adeleke had met all the legal requirements to be declared the winner of the governorship race.
The election, which took place on Saturday, August 15, drew significant attention across Osun State as voters made their choice between the incumbent governor and other candidates vying for control of the state for the next four years.
Adeleke ran for re-election under the Accord Party banner after switching from the Peoples Democratic Party in December 2025. His victory now paves the way for him to serve another four-year term as governor.
This outcome marks another important win for Adeleke, who first took office following the 2022 governorship election.
Now, all eyes will be on the reactions from the various parties, candidates, and their supporters in light of INEC’s official announcement.
