Pastor Dolapo Lawal suggests couples must share passwords before marriage. Is this the key to a legitimate union?

Nigerian pastor and cleric, Pastor Dolapo Lawal, has stirred up quite a buzz online with his recent comments about the importance of transparency in relationships, especially in marriage. During a sermon that quickly gained traction, Pastor Lawal stressed that couples should be open about every aspect of their lives, including sharing access to personal accounts and passwords, before they tie the knot.

His remarks, made in a recent address, have sparked a flurry of opinions across social media. He boldly suggested that anyone looking for a partner should ask for access to everything their future spouse possesses, including passwords. If the answer is ‘no,’ he believes it’s time to rethink the relationship.

“Ask the person you want to marry if you can know their password to everything they own. If they say ‘no,’ then walk away! Let them go their own way,” Lawal declared, underscoring the idea that openness is essential for a thriving relationship.

Pastor Lawal also challenged the notion of being physically vulnerable without emotional and financial honesty. He argued that a relationship without transparency can’t truly be called a marriage. His message was clear: real marriage demands total openness in all areas, including finances and personal matters.

“You can see my n@kedness, but you’re not being honest with me? What kind of marriage is that? What are we even doing?” Lawal remarked, emphasizing the critical need for both emotional and financial transparency.

He referenced Romans 8:32 to highlight the level of openness that should be standard in a marriage. Drawing a parallel between physical vulnerability and the necessity for transparency, he said, “Do you understand what it means to be n@ked in front of someone? You can see my n@kedness, but they can’t see your account balance.”

The pastor concluded by asserting that a true marriage is built on divine compassion and honesty.
