- The Lagos State Government says more than 10,000 people were arrested over environmental offences across the state in the last one year.
- Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the arrests were part of ongoing efforts to improve sanitation and restore environmental order.
Speaking during a ministerial briefing in Ikeja, Wahab explained that the offenders were arrested for various violations, including indiscriminate waste disposal, illegal street trading, open defecation, highway crossing, and other environmental-related offences.
According to him, the state government has intensified enforcement operations through relevant environmental agencies to ensure compliance with sanitation laws and regulations. He noted that the exercise is aimed at creating a cleaner and safer environment for residents.
The commissioner stated that authorities also carried out clearance operations in several parts of the state, targeting illegal structures, roadside trading activities, and locations identified as environmental nuisance points.
Wahab added that the government remains committed to improving waste management, reducing pollution, and promoting environmental sustainability across Lagos State. He urged residents to support the administration’s efforts by complying with environmental laws and maintaining proper sanitation practices.
