Desmond Elliot Withdraws from Surulere APC Primary, Cites Intimidation and Harassment

May 22, 2026

  • Lagos State House of Assembly member Desmond Elliot has withdrawn from the APC primary election for Surulere Constituency 1.
  • He says his supporters were denied access to the voting venue, and alleged that party officials deemed their voting materials fake without verification.

Elliot, representing Surulere Constituency 1, told newsmen that the treatment of his supporters and the handling of voting materials were unfair, leading him to step aside from the contest.

He assured that he will appeal the circumstances surrounding his withdrawal to ensure a fair resolution for all aspirants involved in the primary.

The withdrawal comes just days before the APC primary in Surulere, where Odunuga-Bakare remains in the race. Several other aspirants had previously stepped down to support her, giving her a strong position in the contest.

Elliot’s decision has added a new layer of tension to the primary, raising questions about the conduct and security of aspirants during party nomination exercises.
