Drama at ADC convention as Oyegun mistakenly says APC, sparks laughter in Abuja

There was a dramatic and humorous moment at the national convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja after former APC national chairman John Odigie-Oyegun mistakenly mentioned “APC” while addressing delegates.

The slip immediately drew laughter from party members and observers at the convention hall. Realising the mistake, Oyegun quickly paused and asked, “No, no, did I just say APC?” — a remark that further sent the hall into laughter.

Adding to the comic relief, former senator Dino Melaye jokingly responded, “Baba, you need to seek refuge from the devil,” prompting even more reactions from delegates.

Oyegun, however, turned the moment into a light-hearted joke, admitting that remnants of his former political affiliation may still be lingering. He humorously said he might need a strong “purgative” to completely shake off the APC reflex.

Beyond the laughter, the former party chairman returned to serious matters, declaring that the ADC is preparing to challenge for power in 2027 and positioning itself as a strong force ahead of the next general elections.

The moment has since gone viral online, with many Nigerians debating whether it was just a harmless slip or a sign of lingering political ties.

Do you think this was an innocent mistake or a sign politicians never truly leave their former parties?
Can ADC truly emerge as a serious challenger in 2027?
