FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has defended the use of tax revenue in the Federal Capital Territory, saying the administration has been transparent about how public funds are being spent.
Speaking on the financial commitments of the FCT, Wike said the territory was generating between ₦8 billion and ₦9 billion monthly when he assumed office, stressing that he did not mean ₦89 billion.
“When I came here, we were like 8 to 9 billion every month,” Wike said, clarifying that he meant 8 to 9 billion, not 89.” “Our salary in a month is not less than 12 to 13 billion.”
The minister said the wage bill alone shows the scale of financial responsibility facing the FCT administration, adding that criticism against him has been unusually intense compared to what other politicians experience.
“There is no abuse I think any politician has gotten than me,”
Wike also challenged critics to directly question the FCT administration on how taxpayers’ money is being spent, insisting that the government should be held accountable through open scrutiny.
“Challenge the minister of FCT – come and tell us what you’ve been using our tax money to do,”
His remarks come amid growing public interest in revenue generation, salary obligations and infrastructure spending in the Federal Capital Territory.
