The Rivers State Ministry of Education has lifted the suspension placed on Wisdom Gate International School, Campus 1, Eligbolo, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, following the school’s compliance with the safety directives issued by the Ministry.
In a press statement issued by the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Peters Nwagor, the Ministry said the decision was reached after a comprehensive investigation and verification exercise it conducted, which confirmed that the school had satisfactorily met the required safety standards and upgraded its facilities as directed.
According to the Commissioner, the Ministry is satisfied that the management of the school has taken the necessary corrective measures to provide a safer learning environment for pupils and staff.
“This decision follows a thorough investigation and confirmation by the Ministry of Education that Wisdom Gate International School has met the safety standard requirements and upgraded its facilities as instructed by the Ministry”, the statement said.
The Commissioner said, With the suspension now lifted, Wisdom Gate International School, Campus 1, has been authorized to resume academic activities, but with a warning for the management to prevent any circumstances that could lead to a recurrence of such an ugly incident that led to the suspension.
“Consequently, Wisdom Gate International School, Campus 1, Eligbolo, is permitted to resume academic activities and is strictly mandated to prevent any circumstances that could lead to a recurrence of such an ugly incident”, the statement added.
Dr. Nwagor used the opportunity to state the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring that safety standards are maintained in all public and private schools in the State.
Recall that the Rivers State Ministry of Education suspended Campus 1 of Wisdom Gate International School in Eligbolo, Port Harcourt, following the tragic death of a two-year-old pupil, Wynne Akekue, who died when a bookshelf fell on her in the classroom on March 17, 2026..
