Former Ondo Governor Mimiko Joins APC, Ends PDP Membership

May 15, 2026

  • Former Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) after resigning his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) earlier in April.
  • Mimiko was received at the APC secretariat in Ondo West Local Government Area by party leaders and supporters during his formal declaration.

The former governor, who led Ondo State between 2009 and 2017, arrived at the party secretariat on Wednesday to complete his move to the ruling party. He was welcomed by the APC Chairman in the state, Babatunde Kolawole, alongside the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, amid cheers from party faithful.

Mimiko’s return to active partisan politics comes after months of speculation following his resignation from the PDP, where he had briefly returned after previously serving as a key figure in the Labour Party (LP). Before his PDP stint, he played a prominent role in the LP at both state and national levels.

Political sources described his defection as a strategic move that could strengthen the APC’s influence in Ondo State, particularly in the Ondo Central Senatorial District, given his political experience and grassroots network.

A former spokesperson to the ex-governor also confirmed the development, stating that arrangements had been concluded for his formal reception into the APC.
